Founding Partner and Broker Associate
Barry Gray has specialized in the marketing and sale of residential architecture, historic properties and design-centric homes since 2000, first at the iconic Mossler, Deasy & Doe and now as Senior Partner and Broker Associate at Deasy Penner & Podley.
He has represented both buyers & sellers of architectural & historic homes designed by early twentieth century icons Arthur & Nina Zwebell, mid-century masters Richard Neutra, John Lautner & Raphael Soriano, classic Southern California architects Richard Dorman, Ed Fickett, Donald Wexler & Gregory Ain, and numerous contemporary architects currently working in Southern California.
Although design & architecture first attracted him to real estate, expert guidance and service has become Barry’s passion, and his satisfaction. He has experienced the chaotic shifts of the marketplace and understands that the process can be emotional and confusing.
“Most people will only buy or sell property a few times in their lives, but they need to make decisions as if they are seasoned pros. When I can steer a client past pitfalls, negotiate for their needs, and protect them from bad decisions, I get to feel good about the work I do”.
And this focus on design and excellent service has turned out to be good business: in Silver Lake, for example, he has negotiated one of the highest ever dollar-per-square-foot sales of both a single family home and a condo. “I’m not a neighborhood specialist, I’m a service specialist and my experience selling unique architectural and historic homes, along with new construction, multi-unit, and even small commercial, has prepared me to face almost any listing or purchase challenge.”
Barry transitioned into real estate from the film business, where he was involved in independent film finance, distribution and marketing. While traveling extensively around the world to attend film markets and festivals he discovered his interest in design and architecture. He oversaw the restoration of LA Historic Cultural Landmark #1040, a Hollywood Hills residence by mid-century architect Richard Dorman, and currently lives in a 1917 Colonial Revival home with Mill’s Act designation in Wilshire Park HPOZ.
Barry attended Roanoke College and U.S.C.’s Annenberg School of Communications and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He is licensed as a Broker in the state of California, is a member of the Beverly Hills Board of Realtors, and has designations including Seniors Real Estate Specialist and Negotiations Expert.
Barry, I enjoyed working with you and appreciate everything you did for me… You went above and beyond what could be expected of any Realtor in helping me sell my house.
Thank you Barry, I never thought anyone would have to work so hard to get a deal done and you really did the job, and I’m very grateful for the way you conducted all aspects of this transaction.
Last summer, when my wife and I were looking for our first home, we were lucky enough to have had Barry recommended to us. He isn’t only a hard working, knowledgeable and dedicated real estate agent, but he is also one of the friendliest and caring people you will ever…
I cannot recommend Barry highly enough! He was my agent when I sold my home. Clearly selling one’s own home is not easy. Barry’s expertise in homes of architectural interest, as well as his caring for his clients, made the process so easy and straightforward. I never felt pressured during…
Su and I are writing to express what a pleasure it is have Barry Grey as our real estate agent. Barry has represented us in both the sale and purchase of our homes. Su and I both credit Barry with “getting” what we were looking for when buying and even…
Barry Gray helped us sell our home in an extremely difficult market. He guided us through the process with professionalism and confidence and got is sold for a higher price than anything else in the neighborhood. It was always comforting to have Barry on our side and we look forward…
I’ve worked with 7 realtors in my life and none have been as exceptional as Barry. He is that rare real estate gem: knowledgable, analytical, savvy, tireless – AND caring, kind and empathetic, with a sense of humor to boot. He is simply the greatest.
I have 15 years of professional experience in international public relations and film production, yet Barry Gray, as my real estate agent, has enriched my own understanding and appreciation for a process that – just like in my own field – involves a group of individuals wanting to concur on…
You set the sales experience bar at a new quality level for the industry. From the photo shoot to your updates and honest experienced coaching as we went through negotiations. We are happy and confident that the details and close on this one will go smoothly.
About you I can only say how happy I am that I met you and know you now and will always. Thank you so much for your insights, your wonderfully subtle ways of saying, hey Suzanne and Don, don’t do that, do this or try this, it might work better….
I would highly recommend Barry’s services as a realtor because he helps to insure that the process runs smoothly, and he instinctively knows how to diffuse most of the stress and emotionally charged reactions which often accompany residential estate. If Barry could close or trust sale, he can close anything!
Both our sale and our subsequent purchase were very dependent on clockwork timing –which Barry made happen with the skill of a surgeon. And he did it with an unwavering dedication to fairness for all parties. He’s a rare gem!
Barry came up with various innovative ideas and solutions, but never pushed us into making and compromising decisions. At the same time, he was a tough and effective negotiator (we wouldn’t want to be on the other side of the table negotiating with him) and brought us the best deal…
Thank you Barry, it’s true we were the worst clients ever. We didn’t know what we wanted in a house – only that it had to be totally fabulous and unique, have plenty of space for the kids and be a tremendous value. Somehow you delivered. Not only did you…
I have nothing but positive things to say about Barry Gray. Not only is he a lovely human, but he is incredibly professional. Fair, fast, and honest – it’s always a pleasure working with him.
